Omar Castanos has worked with such legends/impresarios like Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco, Conjunto Classico, Ray Barretto to current day performers like Marc Anthony, Frankie Morales (Former Lead Singer for Tito Puente), Jimmy Bosch, Oscar Hernandez (The Spanish Harlem Orchestra), The Mambo Legends Orchestra (led by Jose Madera, Musical Director for Tito Puente till he passed away) to name a few. In addition Omar has done work with Maurice Peress on the reconstruction of Duke Ellington's Black, Brown and Beige. Omar himself is a legend in this genre providing music copying and transcriptions for the past 40 years securing the reputation for exceptional quality, integrity and accountability for his work. In the process he also became known as a master Latin music transcription specialist. OMS was the exclusive copyist for Tito Puente and currently provides similar exclusive services for Marc Anthony, Frankie Morales and The Mambo Legends Orchestra.
Omar studied music at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College. Receiving a BA degree and presently completing his MA in "The Jazz Masters" program. He is an accomplished trumpet player, performing with the like of Somos Musica, Ray Barretto and Tito Nieves. He also has arranging credits for Rumba Nueva CD Produced by Papo Ortega’s Cubanoson Track 2 &12 and Conjunto Katharí CD Produced by Demetrios Kastaris Track 10. He also has movie credit for his work on "El Crimen De Padre Amaro" (A Mexican film production). His goal as a Music Copyist is that music that is copied by him is readable and easy to understand.
